Fabric of Fab India

I've been wanting to blog for almost a month...finally got the time,so without much adieu lemme start.

FAB INDIA,the brand that sells those contemporary cotton kurtis and tunics, that have excellent fitting actually started as an exporter of home furnishings. It was started with a mission to showcase Indian handloom textiles with a way to provide employment to traditional artisans by an American ,John Bissell in 1960.The irony of it ! Started with a $20,000 legacy ,its grown to a 65 million dollar company. The first store retail store was started in New Delhi. Now it has almost about 135 stores.Fab India doesnot believe in advertising and largely has grown with just 'word of mouth' publicity. Another interesting insight, which by the way is also a Harvard case study, about Fab india is its supply chain model. They have an indigenuous COC (community owned companies) model. The COC model consists of companies, which act as value adding intermediaries, between rural producers and Fabindia. These are owned, as the name suggests, by the communities they operate from; a minimum 26% shareholding of these companies is that of craft persons, with Artisans Micro Finance, a Fabindia arm holding 49%, and employees and other private investors holding the balance. The products at Fab india, apart from apparel are home décor, organics, accessories are certified natural, organic and unique, all this while creating sustainable livelihoods in rural sector

So my advice ,Go shopolicious and don’t feel guilty !!!
